Creating a High-Performance Microsite System for Norwegian.

Challenge

How to generate pre-launch excitement and drive customer acquisition for cruise ships (the NCL Bliss) that were still under construction.

Solution

Develop an immersive, responsive microsite framework featuring 3D renderings of the ships, allowing potential customers to virtually explore, and lock-in their cruises early.

CMS Powered Grids

Each ship has lots to offer, and plenty of beautiful visuals are needed to tell that story, plus there are different amounts of restaurants, attractions, and shows on each ship.

To make sure our framework was robust and versatile enough to handle any content, we developed a CMS powered masonry grid system to showcase amenities like restaurants, food, shows, amenities, and anything else.

360° VR Experience

Using 360° video, and a custom web player, we gave visitors the chance to strap their phones into a disposable VR goggle, and experience some of the funnest aspects of the ships. Experiences included racing on the go-kart track, taking a plunge down one of the waterpark slides, walking along the promenade, and checking out the observation lounge.

Where’s My Room?

Deckplans are always unique to each ship, in order to let visitors explore what the ship has to offer, we built an interactive deckplan viewer.

It shows the ship from the side, and splits it apart at the selected deck level, while flipping-up the chosen deckplan in 3D. In order to see more detail, the viewer adds a zoomed-in magnifying circle that follows around user inputs.

Top-Deck Explorer

The top-deck is where all the biggest, and funnest experiences are located on cruise ships. Using an endless-loop video of the ship cruising through the water from the top-down perspective, visitors can explore the ships most unique outdoor amenities with interactive hotspots that reveal more info.

Norwegian Cruise Line was extremely pleased with the outcome of the microsite framework. Four consecutive ship launches received these custom microsites.
